The state government of Delta recently received approval from the Federal Government of Nigeria to receive international flights in the state capital, Asaba.
The Nigerian Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, stated that the airport meets government requirements and that the government could delay further in the commencement of flights.
Asaba is located 500 kilometers to the east of Lagos and its airport existed for a long time, but with poor infrastructures. The airport which is viewed by many as a vanity project by the previous governor was officially to connect Asaba locals to the rest of Nigeria.
The airport which could only serve an average of 6,880 passengers per month on 260 flights can now accommodate 747 aircrafts.
This development come as a relief as it means improvement in dire need of good aviation structure in Africa and a boost to the state’s economic growth. J
