LAGOS RETHINKING BAN ON OKADA, TRICYCLES

The Lagos State Government has decided not to take definite action against illegal operations of commercial tricycles and motorcycles on restricted routes across the state. The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, said the Government need to achieve a generally acceptable solution as regard the restriction against of motorcycles and tricycles.


The delay by the State Government is also said to allow relevant parties and stakeholders who had earlier reached out to the Government with suggestions, a fair hearing. He said a win-win solution will presumably be adopted.


The State emphasized that it is committed to the security of lives and property of Lagos residents and safety of visitors while also upholding the metropolitan culture of the state.Among various factors to consider include the ease of transportation which in turn affect businesses and transactions in the state.


While motorcycles and commercial tricycles help to salvage the traffic plagued with Lagos state, the commissioner also advocated a need to sensitise riders of Okada and tricycles on the mandatory requirement of obeying traffic laws.
