The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has said that there are plans for the Eastern ports to be more utilized this year as they envisage more cargoes moving there. According to General Manager Corporate and Strategic Communications of NPA, Mr Adams Jatto, noted that the authorities are making efforts to cope with the volume of cargo coming in, while also commending terminal operators and handlers who have been working in this regard.
Mr Adams disclosed that “efforts are also being made to make the Eastern ports more viable. Moving these cargoes to the Eastern port is a good thing because it is observed that most of the cargoes that are Lagos bound, most of the consignment are meant for the East”.
He further noted that while factors like dilapidated roads are the reason why most of the Eastern ports were abandoned, measures are in place to salvage this and hopes to see complete restoration soon.
